Technical Development (TD) at Biogen Idec takes molecules from the R&D stage and readies them for manufacturing as commercial product. TD consists of four main departments:
Process Biochemistry (PBC)
- Process development encompassing all aspects pharmaceutical proteins purification (cell culture harvest, column chromatography, membrane separations, ultra- and nano-filtration)
- Supporting process validation, technology transfer of purification processes into cGMP manufacturing
- Providing on-the-floor support during manufacturing start-up runs
Cell Culture Development (CCD)
- Processing development encompassing all aspects of cell culture manufacturing processes (cell line development and selection, media and feed optimization, reactor systems and their control and scale-up)
- Supporting process validation, technology transfer of cell culture processes into the cGMP manufacturing
- Providing on-the-floor support during manufacturing start up runs
Protein Pharmaceutical Development (PPD)
- Developing and validating the formulations, container closure, devices, and fill/finish drug product manufacturing processes
- Moving Research discoveries through the drug development process
- Placing commercialized drug product into a patient's hand in an innovative, technically robust, economical, and convenient dosage form
Analytical Development (AD)
- Developing analytical methods for product release and characterization
- Performing analyses in support of cell line selection, process and formulation development, product characterization, stability assessments, process validation, and more
- Authoring CMC sections of regulatory submissions
