We employ more than 300 professionals in Patient Services organizations to provide information to patients about their illnesses, and to help them live better lives with their diseases. We also often speak with physicians who are looking for medical information about our drugs and their use.
Biogen Idec Patient Services Specialists may be able to connect a newly diagnosed patient with an MS "veteran" patient for mentoring...or arrange for a nurse to visit a patient's home for injection training or one-to-one assistance...or direct a patient to a "Living Well with MS" seminar in their area. Our specialists provide individual support customized to help each patient manage their personal, day-to-day challenges of living with MS.
Our Support Specialists can help patients and their caregivers understand their insurance coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. Additionally, Biogen Idec provides a variety of financial assistance programs for people taking one of our medications that are tailored to meet the needs of a range of situations. Specifically, we have programs for uninsured people, people who are privately insured, and people insured through public programs, such as Medicare.
Financial Assistance and Insurance Services for people prescribed Biogen Idec's medications include:
- Researching your insurance coverage and determining your out-of-pocket costs
- Helping you find an appropriate insurance plan, supplemental Medicare coverage, Medicaid or Social Security Disability Insurance
- Providing co-payment assistance if you are eligible and insured
- Helping identify charitable organizations that support those who have a financial need
- Providing financial assistance to our patients in need; we contributed $230 million in 2009 through our free drug program, co-pay assistance programs and charitable donations
